The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
