New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared video stills Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday in the area between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a newborn.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was projected as a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
