Baroque Works is geared up to make a major impact in the next installment of Netflix’s show of One Piece, although the true confrontation won’t unfold until the next season, and a cherished, popular member has just been cast.
The streaming service revealed Tuesday that Cole Escola is now part of the One Piece upcoming season’s lineup and will play Bon Clay. Bon Clay has the ability to transform into an exact copy of any person they’ve touched with their dominant hand. Escola, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, will portray a interpretation of that figure reinterpreted as non-binary, instead of as a drag artist, in the real-life adaptation, differing from the original manga and animated series.
This performer joins several other new cast members who will portray Baroque Works to the screen, including head Mr. 0, brought to life by Joe Manganiello, Sophia Anne Caruso as a key member, and a familiar face, who will appear as the lineup as the ruler of the fictional land.
Although the role is a important part of the group, the persona won’t make their debut One Piece the upcoming installment. Considering season 2 set to cover the Little Garden segment, this represents a major departure in the timing of the character’s debut, one that could indicate more adjustments to the story’s structure.
Escola’s blend of precise humor and deep sensitivity makes them a perfect fit for the part. Besides their current animated role in the animated coming-of-age film Boys Go to Jupiter, they earned widespread acclaim and several accolades for writing and starring in the hit comedy play Oh Mary!, emphasizing the versatility they’ll contribute to one of One Piece’s widely praised roles.
The streaming service’s real-life One Piece series is set to return for its second season on the tenth of March, 2026.
