Citizens have assembled around the country to mark two years since the Hamas-led offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks advanced in the neighboring country over an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
The incident saw in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely most lethal day for Jews since the World War II.
Israel reacted by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are considered reliable by the UN and other global organizations.
"The violent enemies have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.
He also vowed to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will not present a danger to Israel".
The government authorities delayed formal remembrance events until mid-October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still took place across the country on that day.
A remembrance service for the relatives of people who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was held in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the families themselves, it was broadcast across Israeli TV networks.
Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected around the country.
Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams met in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a second day of indirect talks to discuss the terms of the agreement.
A high-ranking delegate involved in the talks indicated that an evening round of mediated discussions commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.
The representative said the morning session concluded without concrete outcomes, due to disagreements over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not resume hostilities after the opening period of the agreement.
He added that the talks are "tough and have still not deliver any major advancement," but pointed out that facilitators are working hard to narrow the gaps between the both parties.
In the city's public square earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling endured the incident on the gathering, where hundreds were killed and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "Nowhere appears as home any longer and until all the hostages return not a single person will feel safe."
"When we see everybody home returned, we can relax once more. Then we can start to rebuild," she concluded.
Outside the leader's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to express their support for the families of the captives. Israel states forty-eight continue in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.
Activist a participant explained: "We must do whatever arrangement necessary for the hostages to return. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be protected."
Research now regularly indicate that around seventy percent of Israelis want the war to end in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.
At the area of the gathering, those paying respects came together to remember the victims.
From the site, the noise of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers said the heavy Israeli shelling carried on.
In the urban center, attacks were documented in the early hours of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and Nasr districts and in the east side district of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.
"When the night comes, the fear comes with it," relocated urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli bombing last year, described.
"Me and my three children are terrified of the bombings. All the night we are lying together, holding each other, notably my youngest child who places his head on me all night."
"Every second we look at the updates to see the situation. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the fighting will resume to us."
The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had accepted the bodies of several people by the daytime, including a trio who died in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.
Another medical facility in the southern urban center of that area reported two more fatalities had been delivered. An individual was killed by Israeli soldiers while seeking assistance to the southern area, medical staff said.
