Everyone Are Welcome to Be the Additional Haim Bandmate.

"Any idea when you're interviewing Haim?" an inquiry pops up. "I wanted to ask if I can join as their extra sister."

There's just a key snag: The sender also wants to be the Haims' fourth member. And we're far from alone. A host of famous fans have openly coveted the position.

It's clear an irresistible appeal is at play. The siblings Este, Danielle and Alana started their path doing sets at local delicatessens with their family. Presently, they stand as multiple Grammy hopefuls.

Similar to the best bands, they're a inseparable unit. Their music videos often feature them striding in unison down the streets of Los Angeles. On stage, they perform with such pure joy you inevitably think, "I wish to be involved in that, too."

"The numerous instances on tour that young girls approached us and said, 'Seeing you perform, I got a bass'," says Alana, the most junior of the trio. "That's the ultimate honor. It is a prize in itself. Our mission is accomplished if we can inspire others to make music."

"So anyone is invited to be the fourth Haim sister."

Grammy Milestone

The group have called into their homes, where they're recovering after an lengthy tour in for their latest album, I Quit.

They're right now processing the news it's been nominated for Best Rock Album at the Grammys – with Haim the first all-woman band ever in consideration for the award.

"I tune into the announcements every year, so it almost feels like a surreal movie when your name is read out," notes Alana. "I needed to phone my sisters to say, 'Did we just hear this correctly or am I imagining things'?"

The importance of the honor is deeply felt by the sisters.

"We really set out to make a guitar-driven album this time, so it's a huge milestone," says Alana. "However we're just thankful for the female artists that inspired us."

Emotional Upheaval and Candor

The album was born from a time of personal change. All three sisters were single, and the music explores that strange liminal space where you're relieved to be free, but not quite ready to let go.

The words follow departures and partings. The sisters seek love, but not the specific love they've experienced. You can hear them working out in the moment who they are becoming.

"I love way of putting it, yes," agrees Danielle. "I Quit is like a personal statement. You have to consciously practice ignoring the criticism and saying, 'I couldn't care less what people think'."

Evolution of Music

That developed confidence demanded a fresh approach – more raw and immediate than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who helped produce the album, that started with the drum sound.

"The drum sound is such a detailed thing, and I am so passionate about it," she states.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the title of our book," laughs Alana. "I always say, our albums don't start until we find the right drum sound."

Stories and Collective Camaraderie

The trio's openness inspired the album's rollout, where the sisters disclosed some of their dating misadventures.

A former partner left Este over a health concern. Alana recalled a story of travelling to celebrate New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a high five at midnight.

"When you're going through these breakups, you just feel like there's no hope," notes Alana. "Therefore to be able to share those stories and hear others tell you wilder stories, it's incredible."

A Secure Legacy

One can easily sense a change in the band. Today, Haim are more assured of their position in the music world.

They're top-billed acts, with chart-topping albums and an international following.

But the sister act will consistently be their top focus.

"Me and my siblings have been performing since I was four," shares Alana. "It feels as if no alternative that we were destined for. And I'm really grateful we've reached this point and we're still going strong."
