Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
