Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
